A festival day to Sol. King Tatius is said to have dedicated altars to Sol and Luna (Sun and Moon), and Quintilian refers to a Pulvinar Solis near the temple of Quirinus on the Quirinal. The sun was an obvious natural power to attract attention in the summer heat of this month, and the cult of Sol Indiges appears to have been one of the oldest in Rome.
