An important virtue of a healthy community is the virtue of Salubritas, which is closely linked with physical health.
In this game, you are to display your physical prowess through performing a physical feat, which can be any athletic or sport activity, while also showing it to us. Examples can be taking a very long hike, doing a great amount of pushups, showing us your new PR, running a distance very fast, or simply just doing something that is pushing your own athletic boundaries, everything counts. Remember – this is just as much about the athletic performance as the feat performed, so get creative! Judgement will not only be determined on the effort or difficulty, but also the motivation, originality and other factors, so you do not have to be an athlete to participate.
The final date of submission is November 17th
The criteria are as follows:
The athletic performance is illustrated through a photo or a video;
The athletic performance is to be explained in text or in the video;
The athletic performance, if applicable, is to be strengthened with evidence through a physical fitness app and the screenshot of the activity is to be submitted;
Possible bonus points which will boost your ranking in this game are:
Submitting a motivation as to why this activity is important to your own Salubritas or physical health;
Motivating why the activity submitted was a particular display of your own Salubritas;
The rewards for this game is:
1st place: 75 denarii
2nd place: 50 denarii
3rd place: 25 denarii
Good luck!November 12, 2021 at 8:34 pm #42193

I strongly believe the purpose of our genius inhabiting a frame made of flesh is to create and evolve ourselves. To expand ourselves to our maximum potential while manifesting the best of nature in the virtues. Therefore, this year I have taken it upon myself to everyday do four actions which expand myself across my connection with my inner voice and that of the gods, with my family, with my financial productivity and with my health.
When it comes to my health I like the words of Marcus Aurelius who said, “Do not act as if you were going to live ten thousand years.” Friends, death is coming. I’ve seen it working in healthcare more over the last two years than in years prior. This is my fate. It is yours. What I control is now. This moment. The choices I make in this moment and the next moment when it comes to my body determines how my body will show up tomorrow. As long as my body is strong it is ready to defend my family, community and produce prosperity through my actions. If my body is broken, then my productivity is reduced.
Again, Marcus Aurelius said, “So you were born to feel “nice”? Instead of doing things and experiencing them? Don’t you see the plants, the birds, the ants and spiders and bees going about their individual tasks, putting the world in order, as best they can? And you’re not willing to do your job as a human being? Why aren’t you running to do what your nature demands?”
My purpose is to produce value. Value for my family, and my community. Therefore, everyday I rise. Maybe like the legionaries of old. I run. I lift. I train. Rain or shine. Cold or hot. It is all the same. So far this year I’ve run 340km.
This photo is from this morning. I ran 11 km of trails in the mountains. It was raining. It was foggy. But the smell of the forest. The vista of the Pacific Ocean, and the feeling of my body in nature reminded me of the virtue of Salubritas. Of purity and of optimizing my body for what it was intended to do, it’s nature, amidst being surrounded by nature.

As time goes by, I have realised that our body is an extraordinary gift we received and I think we have the responsibility to keep it in good shape. It’s even in our hands to make it working better and longer.
For that reason, I try to keep my body active. I commute to work with my bike all year round whatever the weather, I avoid to use the lift at work, I attempt to eat healthy and I ride or hike at weekends. We spent for example our last summer holiday on our tandem in Burgundy (a little more than 1000 km).
I’ve never been very sportive. I’ve done many collective and individual sports but I’ve never liked being in a sports hall or having restrictive rules. I’ve never enjoyed sport until I bought my first mountain bike. This day, I discovered that doing sport could be also fun and unencumbered. I appreciate the contact with the nature, the smells, the colours, the sounds (I never hear music while riding). In general, I don’t prepare an itinerary and I ride wherever the road, the path or the scenery leads me. It can be on the road, in a muddy forest or on a hiking trail in the Alps. Sometimes 30 km, sometimes 130 km. Good for my body and my soul.
Yesterday was a rainy and quite cold day but I felt like going for a little ride. After the first Germanic incursions, the Romans built many watchtowers along the Rhein and I thought I could take this opportunity to have a look to these vestiges. I finally found the remains of 5 watchtowers and 1 fort and I made a short detour to Augusta Raurica, a Roman city in the neighbourhood. An enjoyable 70 km soaked ride!
