I am puzzled by something that has happened this week.
I have a seven day candle in my home. It’s a large candle in a glass container that burns for a week continuously. I have used this brand of candle for 13 months. The flame is Vesta’s flame in my home. Until last week my flame burned continuously for these many months. Tending this flame became increasingly important to me, and I felt very much connected to the goddess through this process. Last week the flame went out for the first time. The candle was suppose to burn for 4 more days… I got a new candle and relit it. Two days later this candle went out early. I bought another brand of seven day candle. I put it in a new room incase some weird draft was blowing it out. No one else lives in my home. This third candle went out in less then a day!
I feel like Vesta has abandoned me. I feel like this most also be a warning. I can’t sort out why this would be. Nothing has really changed in my life or approach to Vesta or any god.
I’m hoping to get some advice from someone more experienced. Maybe a sacerdos? Anyone?
Has it been raining a lot recently? Sometimes humidity can mess with candles or if it’s been too dry it can sometimes make the flame burn through the wick too fast so the flame keeps drowning itself.
I’d its none of those things (I always try to explain the mundane first) then it could possibly be that Vesta is sending a warning. Having a negative spirit in the house may also cause candles to go out.
Is there a lot of black soot on the glass at the top of the candle? That can indicate blockages/something trying to stop you.
Maybe there is a natural explanation. Perhaps the flow of air in your house has changed by leaving certain doors or windows open that were before closed. Was there an unusual flickering of the flame? Changing the place of the candle might help. In a religious way you could interpret this as Vesta requesting a different place for her flame.
