This is a festival day for Fausta Felicitas on the Capitol. Felicitas is closely akin to Fortuna. Felicitas is deity whose focus had much to do with military affairs. In 201 BCE the Senate granted Scipio Africanus a triumph because he had defeated Hannibal through his virtus and “felicitas”; these two attributes, together with auctoritas and scientia rei militaris, were reckoned by Cicero as the requisites for a good general. Both Pompey and Caesar paid tribute to this deity.
