Today is a festival day to Jupiter Stator. Romulus vowed a temple to Jupiter Stator, the Stayer, if he would halt the Romans who were retreating in the Forum valley from the Sabines after the rape of the women. In this temple ‘twenty-seven maidens learnt the hymn’, composed which they were to sing as they processed through the city – the hymn was to Juno.
