These are Games held on the Campus Martius and likely founded by Romulus. These games were held in honour of Tiberinus, God of the Tiber. It was a special event for fishermen. Festus records that these Games were celebrated by the Praetor Urbanus on behalf of the fishermen of the Tiber ‘whose catch is not taken to the market but to the Area of Vulcan, because that sort of live fish is given to that god as a substitute for human souls’. This procedure can be explained as offering to the fire-god creatures that, when alive, were usually safe from him, in order that he might spare objects that might easily catch fire in the heat of June.
