Macrobius says that after the Roman people had fled on the Poplifugia, they began to reenter the sacked city of Rome on 8 July and established sacrifices for the goddess Vitula. Macrobius states this Goddess is an epithet of victoria, focused upon ‘life’. On this day she received offerings of the first fruits of the earth which give life (Virgil). The ceremony on this day was led by all the pontiffs of the Collegium Pontificum.
