This message is to notify all citizens that the Comitia Centuriata is to be called to order on Maius 25th for it’s VIII Session.
MEETING START DATE: Maius 25th
END OF DEBATE: Iunius 3rd
START OF VOTING: Iunius 4th
END OF VOTING: Iunius 18th
The agenda will be to elect and vote on II new Consules and II new Praetores. As per the recent edict from the Comitia Curiata, any citizen may stand for this position. No previous Cursus Honorum up to these positions is needed. I implore any and all who wish to stand for office to do so.
– On the details of the meeting –
I will be chairing this meeting on an extraordinary basis as requested by the Comitia Centuriata in my capacity as the Princeps Senatus. Normally this would be the job of Consuls. Auspices will be taken by myself as chair of this assembly and with the assistance of Augur P. Iunius Brutus who is an Augur recognized by the Roman Republic.
If you have any comments or concerns post them here.

I hereby declare my candidacy for CONSUL.
In T. Flavio (II) P. Iunio (II) Cos. (2018) I served as Plebeian Tribune. I saw firsthand what happens who you have senior magistrates who are not active. I would not let history repeat itself.
I support the reforms made over the past year by the Consular Tribunes. I did not envy their task. I think most of their work is commendable, particularly the new professional website and direction being taken. As your Consul I would go further in developing our Res Publica as a social hub for all things Roman. I would do this through the following means;
I. To work directly with our reform committees led by the Promagistrates to determine the best way to bring active collegia to our Res Publica. There is no room for petty politics in the Roman Republic. We must make this a safe and attractive place to learn about living as a Roman today. As Consul I would shift the discussion to just that, Romanitas. The elections are to select people to serve you as administrators of this place that is about Romanitas. That will be my focus while in office.
II. COVID-19 has shown how connected our world can be even while physical distance is maintained. This gives me even greater hope for the Res Publica! As an organization that relies upon the digital medium, I want to harness its powers further. As Consul I would seek to celebrate every Ludi at least in part by video conference. I would also like to organize a Saturnalia conference in December. This would be an online conference with speakers and social activities. Maybe even a gift exchange?
III. I believe 1/2 our future lies in the Cultus Deorum, as we will not have victory without divine patronage. As Consul I will work with all interested parties to see that qualified religious leadership is selected and trained to represent our sacra publica.
Citizens, Romans, my platform is achievable and straightforward. The benefit of this platform is many. I hope you support my candidacy and our Res Publica, which is rising like a Pheonix!

I humbly declare my candidacy for the position of PRAETOR.
I have been apart of this community for many years now, studying and serving as Martis Sacerdoes and Augur of the Republic. I have always wished to be a bigger part of the Republic and to make greater contributions to serve everyone here who has such a love of Rome as I. The Res Publica was founded to be a community for all of us who want to share our different passions of the ancient and modern Roman world and I want it to be easier for all of us to enjoy this community we have created.
I currently have lots of free time I can dedicate to making the Republic genuinely appealing to people who have various loves of the many different aspects of Rome. As a former member of the United States Army, the veteran community within the Republic will always have a place close to my heart and I know from personal experience that anyone who has left the brotherhood of service often looks for a new one and I have hope we can create something here that can serve as that brotherhood to those that served and even those who didn’t.
I know I have not held political office within the Republic before but I have a vast knowledge of all aspects of ancient Roman politics and religio, but above all I am willing to learn and dedicate myself to learning the exact way the Republic is run and for the people of this Republic I will give no less than my absolute dedication.
Thank you for taking time to read and I hope you consider me.

Citizens, I humbly virtually come before you to petition for your support. I am running as a candidate for Praetor.
This decision is not one made lightly. As you may know, I served as Consular Tribune last year. I learned a lot over this time. I learned about the unique challenges within our community and also the joys it holds. Some of the actions of my esteemed colleagues and myself were successful. Some were not. A few have yet to play out. But throughout all our efforts in attempting to place the Respublica Romana on good footing for the future, I have remained resolute in a single belief. The Roman Republic is just getting started. Future generations will view these years as the earliest pioneering days. We must not be too hard on ourselves as these trail blazing pioneers. We will have set backs and we will have great victories. Just like our great ancestors.
I imagine in 25 years the Cultus Deorum will be a well recognized and regarded religious option. I imagine Cultores shall set an example for others to follow around the world across all Restorationist traditions. I imagine our spiritual and cultural nation will be recognized along side other now well recognized traditions such as Hellinimos. I believe we will be well on our way to achieving some of the objectives the pious Emperor Julian set out to achieve all those centuries ago.
But first we must take a step forward now. Over the past 4 weeks I have taken the initiative to regather our scattered leading citizens. I phoned our founder Publius Iunius Brutus. I reconnected with Titus Aurelius Apollinaris and Lucius Aurelius Curio. I beseeched them to call a meeting of our non-profit directors. They successfully did this. I beseeched Brutus to appoint me as a Scriba / Assistant Aranearius to secure our website. This has been done. I have started to produce the first lessons for the Academia Minervalis. In short, I have proven my ability to motivate our team and to produce results.
I offer the following advice to all candidates. If elected just push forward. Don’t wait for others. Start the ball rolling. Others will come once you start having results. This is key. Lead. Don’t follow.
I believe my past experience will prove useful as Praetor. I have a former military background. I have proven myself to be able to lead men and produce results. I am also a proud academic. I hold a PhD in the classics and teach in this area. I am also a long standing cultor with decades of devotion to the Gods.
Whoever you elect, the Respublica Romana will move forward. I have total faith in your collective wisdom. I hope to have your good faith in helping to determine our course tomorrow.

A reminder that all candidates have only one more day to declare their intention to run the elections.

As of this moment we have the following candidates:
CONSUL (II ELECTED):
PRAETOR (II ELECTED)June 3, 2020 at 1:39 am #38135
I would like to nominate Senator Quintus Furius Camillus for the office of Consul. I believe he has been with the Roman Republic since the start, and I am cognizant that like myself he holds an academic background relevant to the promotion of Romanitas. I believe he has the knowledge, leadership, and dedication to be a wonderful Consul should he accept this nomination. As a Praetorial candidate, I would like to operate in his administration.
Let the Princeps Senatus add his name to the ballot should the honorable Senator accept this appeal!June 3, 2020 at 6:42 am #38137

It is very nice to see the Res Publica awaking. May all elected take their task seriously and usher in a new great era of Roman cultural reconstruction.
I fully support the candidacies of Varro and Camillus (assuming he agrees to run).

Quirites! If I can be of service, I will toil for our Republic as your consul. I solemnly accept this nomination. In doing so I also endorse the vigorous Varro. Let us be straight, without him we would not be having any discussion at all. If I am to be consul I will need the talents of this man at my side.
Victoria, may you guide us candidates and future magistrates kindly!

I have known Camillus since 2014. We have butted heads more than once. It has taken several years for me to warm to him. Now understand, men I supported historically for the consulship have let me down. So who am I to judge during this most unusual year? Maybe it is time for us to see where the Furii can take us? Camillus is stubborn and opinionated. He rarely bites his tongue. Such claims may upset other people. As Consul he will upset some people. Camillus, I imagine, does not about care such things. Am I right my comrade?
I won’t endorse Camillus, but I won’t be endorsing anyone. Every time I did endorse a citizen who I thought would do a good job, I have been let down. So take that as you may. Maybe we will be surprised by the less orthodox choices?

Salvete. When it comes to the Comitia Centuriata, is there a reason we’re wasting two weeks when we could be making changes and getting things in order for a vote that has only one possible outcome? I understand it for the Concilium Plebis but two weeks seems like a lot of time we could be making some positive changes and getting things in order. I personally recommend just finishing the vote so we can come together and start working on the things that desperately need completed. This way once the Tribune has been selected they can immediately start working with us on whatever progress we have currently made. Just a consideration, as this seems like a waste of good time. Considering all the magistrates running in the Comitia Centuriata are acclaimed and should be elected, I see no issue with just starting your work. The only things missing are website admin access. I have such access as outgoing Consular Tribune. So I’m happy to cover things until the election is finished.
The reason why the election is so long is because it may only begin and end on “C” days. Also the minimum duration of voting is fixed by LEX CURIATORUM: On the procedure for calling, attending and closing assemblies of the Roman People.
Acting Praetor, what work would you like to get started on?

Within our Republic we seem to be on the path to a “true” modern form of Sacra Publica. When I say true I mean as close as it can get in the modern age, as we are obviously not a sovereign Roman state but a group of people legally linked within the body of a corporation. The Res Publica exists technically as a corporate entity so this is the challenge to get around. If we want Sacra Publica then we cannot really do anything “politically” until proper rites, ceremonies, and priests are written, selected, and trained. While we currently have a small inactive body of priests, I believe that by using the Academia Minervalis we could completely rewrite and redo everything for the CDR. Trainings, guides, information, courses, etc should all begun to be moved to the Academia and full effort should be made to getting it to a point where it can have a positive affect on us as a community. We could use this as a first step to organizing everything into one place and start actually working on the goal of the Academia. Creating a cultural successor to the ancient Romans. This is a very basic explanation of my goals and plan but I think it lays it out well enough. If you like I can write up a full document of my full ideas and post it or send it wherever. As I have never been a magistrate within the Republic I have much to learn about exactly how everything is done but I will not let ignorance hold me back for long. If you have counter arguments, changes or other ideas please speak free, I welcome them all. This is just personally what I feel needs to be done to not only advance the Republic but also maintain our relations with the gods. My relationship with the gods will always come before all, as they are due our proper respect.
