With big changes coming to the Roman Republic it has been decided to merge existing interest groups (collegia) and found new groups. The number of interest groups shall be seven. They will cover the following topics:
6 new official collegia need good names…
I. Cultus Deorum Romanorum / Religio Romana / Ancient Roman Religion
II. General Ancient Roman Culture & History
III. Roman Historical Re-enactment
IV. Latin and Latin Literature Group
V. The celebration and competition of Roman festivals (to maybe also revive the old ludi factions)
VI. A group for coordination, promotion and development of local chapters of the Roman Republic (provinces)
WE REQUIRE NAMES FOR THESE GROUPS – WE HOPE YOU CAN HELP!
Please suggest Latin names with English translations for the above groups. Send your suggestions by posting here as a reply.
There will be prizes! If your name is selected you will win denarii (if a member of the RR) or a book on a topic pertaining to Ancient Rome!
Good luck and thank you for your help!March 20, 2019 at 8:34 am #12989
I am not quite sure that these groups would be called collegia in Latin. A collegium was a professional association or guild, which is why the names traditionally consisted of a genitive plural of a profession added to the word collegium.
Maybe communitas or societas is the better choice in this case.
So the names would be like:
I. Communitas Religiosa or Societas Religionis Romanae
II. Societas Humanitatis Romanae
III. Collegium Restitutorum (Here the word collegium sounds right.)
IV. Societas Litterata
V. should belong to I.
VI. Communitates Provinciales

Great suggestions Lupe! Keep’em coming folks! 🙂March 22, 2019 at 1:30 pm #12992
First of all, I must say I like the ideas of Lupus!
I’m not the right person to give ideas here since my level in latin is below zero but I’m curious and i’ve asked my old friend internet. Here is my 2 (3!) dinarii:
I. Communitas religionis romanae (I prefer in this case communitas rather societas)
III. How about Collegium renovatorum? (renew/renovo rather than restore/restituo)
V. In my opinion, it should belong to III. (re-enactment and not religion)quote admin:
What’s the seventh one?
