Quaestor Consularis Oct. Marius Bestia Sal.
In accordance to the bylaws of the Collegium Provinciale, and the absence of a proper Concilium Provinciarum, as well as through my own rights as a member, magistrate and governor approved by the senate, I hereby probe the possibility to host elections for the Concilium Provinciarum to elect between two or five magistri for the Concilium Provinciarum in order to reestablish the administration of the Collegium Provinciale to its members as well as to finally create a structured approach for working out a strategy for provincial development and recruitment.
I do not see any legal precedent as to why this action would be outside of our legal bounds as outlined in LEX CURIATORUM: Defining Collegium or the bylaws of the Collegium Provinciale after personally investigating what I believe to be the necessary and relevant legislation of the republic, but if it is, I ask that the correct legislation for this is presented, and I will instead present this for petition to the Senate.
I appreciate a speedy response if this action is currently not possible to perform by myself, or alternatively if an aedile, praetor or consul will instead host the elections
Valete!
October 13, 2021 at 1:15 am #41799Truly, all collegia should be holding elections. Maybe something to put before the meeting? If we have a meeting soon, then we could hold elections for the collegia before the end of the year. Or we could simply hold such elections after our magisterial elections early in the new year. That might be better for the two topics are not competing for attention?
Any other ideas on how to manage a collegium election? Please let us know!
Also would you be excited about the idea of holding elections? Would you be interested in leading and organizing activities for the year ahead?
Consules? Praetores? What say you?

I certainly agree the Collegia should hold elections, which could provide citizens with a good alternative route to leadership within the republic, as well as (hopefully) invigorate our civic life. If the senate agrees with the proposition, I will not be opposed to having these elections later in the year once a new administration have been elected, since that could eventually mean the new Consuls and Praetors have a new mandate period ahead of them instead of aiding in the last moments of their terms.
As for how to manage the elections, I would suggest a deadline for pre-election membership in the Collegia is set, so that all who wish to vote must become members prior to the elections in order to receive a ballot (and thus avoid having to send out new ballots during the election if people join). Then, ideally, members can state their candidacy just as we do with other leadership titles, and members of every Collegia’s public group will be eligible to run and vote.
I would certainly be interested in helping both organize the elections as well as to guide or lead the new council in establishing themselves and their work for the year ahead, even if I am not elected to official office in a coming election this fall.
