I’m always looking for Roman music, preferably played on instruments of the period. I have a small but growing collection.
Last year I discovered this band called The Orpheus Project. They have an interesting album called SPQR. This group is out of the UK, and I believe less well known than groups like Musica Romana. But it’s a good album, and I recommend it. My young daughter, Lucia, loves some of the more tranquil songs on this album before bed time. 🙂
I actually asked this in the Cultus Deorum group a while ago! Later Ill see if I find the bands I looked up ^^ And, being a guy who always wanted to be a father, knowing that romans are having kids and having them keep in touch with the tradition is heartwarming. I truly hope we see one day little Iunia contributing to our community and in love with it as much as we are 🙂
There is a project called "Music of the Ancient Rome." This is not a musical group, namely the project, at least in our area it is known as such. This project has a pretty good and fairly well-known song:
Music Of the Ancient Rome – Animula Vagula
Generally, Roman-themed kind of music is not very developed. Therefore, it is quite difficult to find a group (collective) or project, occupying this area of music. Most separate songs and compositions appear in in the works of the groups (collectives) or projects, the main focus of which is a medieval music in general. At least this is the case in our area. (=
I’m just starting my collection. There’s more ancient Roman music out there than I thought. I just checked out (Synaulia) and I have to have it. Check them out, if you haven’t heard of them already. Would love to hire Musical Romana for one of my reenactments.
