I just recently discovered the website discord (https://discordapp.com/) which looks like an interesting place to have chat groups, which allow also voice chat, since I had suggested once, that maybe we can have some "meetings" of sorts other than writing in the forum, and the FB chat is a bit subpar. I am just suggesting it, there we might make groups for the policies and the priests. Discord can be used simply as website, so you don’t have to install anything, but also optional as App, for PC and smartphone.
Just take a look. I am new to that system, so no guarantees from me, but so far it looks like an interesting system to stay in touch and debate more on time, like the sort of slowed down way to discuss on a fourm.August 22, 2017 at 1:15 pm #11188

If the Republic has no Discord but there is interest, I can make one myself. Currently it’s one of the best platforms for communication so I would be all for doing so. I’m very familiar with the ins and outs of Discord and could probably even make bots for the forum to Discord communication. Let me know if there’s community support for it and I’ll get started!June 22, 2020 at 1:09 am #38313
I think this would be wonderful. I’m nearly always active on Discord personally. As I use it to communicate with friends both with my cellphone and pc. I think it’d be a good addition. General discussion and less pressing matters may find a home better on Discord rather than the forums proper.June 22, 2020 at 2:11 am #38315

Just a friendly reminder that we also have a chat room here on our RR site.
Look at the attached picture to see how to access it!

While I’m aware that we have a chat room, I still feel that having a discord channel would still be worthwhile. The chat room is wonderful for those that are actively logged in to the RR. And I’d certainly encourage each other to remain active. Discord would be much more convenient in my opinion. No thread to follow in the forums and you wouldn’t have to rely on others being online. Plus a less formal setting may actually encourage discourse more frequently.June 22, 2020 at 2:24 pm #38328

Discord is a convenient service, but the main thing is that the use of discord may reduce the activity on the forum. The forum is our face, an indicator of activity in general.June 24, 2020 at 11:55 am #38342

As consul-elect, I share this view. We are very rich in communication platforms. We have our own forums, blogs, social network, chat rooms, and so on. I also understand we have multiple groups on other social media channels. We have so many ways to communicate. Ideally, we do not scatter our communication channels as then some people will miss out on the activity. For instance, I do not use Facebook. So I already miss some things…
If citizens want to set up their own discord groups, do not let anyone stop you. But I think further communication systems should be unofficial and the prerogative of private citizens who desire to set them up, advertise them and maintain them.
Do not seek permission for these things. Go out there and act. Self-initiated projects should be the heart and soul of the Roman Republic moving forward!
